Over three days, Nuffield curates a mini festival of debates, performances and panel discussions bringing together cultural figures, social commentators and world class scientists including performance by one of the UK’s most innovative theatre companies. Nuffield Kitchen will be open throughout the weekend providing snacks, coffees and light lunches and a comfortable space to carry on debate and discussion!

FESTIVAL LISTINGS

Friday 21 March

4.00 - 5.00pm: Who are We?
An informal panel discussion examining the cultural and societal implications of genetic discoveries on our individual and collective sense of self, family and identity, featuring staff from the University of Southampton.

Saturday 22 March

4.30 – 5.55pm: How to Be Immortal
With live music on cello, squeezebox and ukulele, nano-puppetry, 1950s experiments, and a piece of music written from a DNA code, How to be Immortal is a new play about what death does to us.

6.45 – 8.15pm: Medicine and money with Ben Goldacre
Best-selling author, broadcaster, campaigner and medical doctor, Ben Goldacre discusses the commercialisation of medicine and the ethical and moral dilemmas this throws up, chaired by comedian Robin Ince.

8.30 – 10.30pm: Robin Ince: In and Out of His Mind
Sony Gold Award winning comedian and science enthusiast (Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage with Prof Brian Cox) - presents another in his line of unhinged stand up comic lectures.

Sunday 23 March

11.00 – 12.25pm: How to Be Immortal

1.00 - 6.30pm: TEDxSouthamptonUniversity
Ideas worth spreading...this TEDx day focuses on what we can do to not only survive but to flourish in the 21st Century and features award winning writer, Ella Hickson, choreographer, Ben Duke, geriatric medicine specialist, Dr Helen Roberts and composer and automatist, Sarah Angliss.
