‘ Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind
And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind...’

The Nuffield and Headlong’s re-imagining of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM sets Shakespeare’s best-loved comedy in a 1960s film studio where a Hollywood epic is in the making. Meanwhile Hippolyta’s turbulent off-camera affair with her costar Theseus is fast becoming the love-hate relationship of the century – and it’s not the only romance to have blossomed on set. Passions rise. Tempers fray. And filming is almost complete.

This vivid, thrilling new production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM uses video, movement and music to re-locate Shakespeare’s funniest play in the centre of this magical whirlwind of passion and performance – and asks whether love, like beauty, is really only in the eye of the beholder. Combining Shakespeare’s original text with a rich and cutting edge production, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM follows the previous collaborations between The Nuffield and Headlong Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness and The Winter’s Tale.
