lab·o·ra·to·ry noun, often attributive lə-ˈbär-ə-t(ə-)rē
a place providing opportunity for experimentation, observation, or practice in a field of study

Nuffield Laboratory is our brand new artist development programme. It is a space where Nuffield and our community of artists can experiment with new ideas; a creative hub for exploration and discovery. We collaborate with theatre-makers from Hampshire, the South and across the UK to explore new creative ideas or to hone and develop their theatrical craft.

A range of activity will be curated or produced under the Laboratory banner; examples might include developing a new project with a director, giving producing mentorship to a small company, supporting the early seeds of a new idea at a works-in-progress night, or offering assistant creative positions on our main stage productions. We aim to collaborate with artists through an open dialogue that enhances the creative life and work of both our organisation and of the theatre-makers we support.

The Laboratory brand also represents the diverse community of artists we engage with through the Laboratory Network. We support the creative practice of these artists through the network by offering a packed programme of workshops and networking events, reduced-price tickets, and bespoke producing advice and support.

Nuffield Laboratory is led by Artist Development Producer, Dawn Taylor. If you are a professional or aspiring artist who is interested in building a relationship with Nuffield, please contact Dawn on, or read our FAQs for more information.

The Laboratory was newly created in Spring 2014, and as such is still in its formative stages – we will continue to make announcements over the coming months as we develop this exciting programme. If you have any comments or suggestions, or if would like to be kept updated on new developments and projects, please contact Dawn on the address above.
