The Tempest

Following their highly successful production of Andromaque, we are delighted to have the opportunity to welcome Cheek by Jowl back to Southampton with a dynamic new production of THE TEMPEST.

In 1999, Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod were invited by the Chekhov International Festival to form an ensemble.

Featuring some of Russia’s finest actor’s, the company first performed in 2000 at Moscow Arts Theatre. Since then, Cheek by Jowl’s Russian sister company has performed across the world from Sydney to Buenos Aires. This new production of THE TEMPEST is the ensemble’s fourth and will perform at only a select few venues in the UK following its Paris opening in January 2011.

Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod’s internationally renowned Russian ensemble, whose “acting is nothing short of sublime” (The Times), perform a fresh and innovative interpretation of THE TEMPEST , bringing to life this disturbing masque of power, control and illusion. Shakespeare juggles laughter, danger, magic and love with all the flair and freedom of his maturity.
