Set among Irish Americans in New York, Richard Bean’s dark, glinting, funny play spans three turbulent decades.

Young fireman Michael Doyle decides to live up to his Irish heritage by joining the IRA. Recruited by Costello, the charismatic “Big Fellah”, he gets embroiled in a plan to use his Bronx apartment as a safe house for an escaped killer.

Out of Joint is the acclaimed touring company dedicated to the sharpest new writing, who have previously visited The Nuffield with The Convict’s Opera, Andersen’s English, Dreams of Violence and Mixed Up North. This is the company’s first collaboration with the Lyric Hammersmith, whose most recent tours include the critically-acclaimed Punk Rock and Three Sisters.
