The Italian community in Scotland settled before WW1. When Mussolini declared war in 1940, they suddenly became enemy aliens. All males 16–70 were arrested and many were deported to Canada. After the war, relations between the two countries slowly rebuilt.
Mike Maran tells a personal story of his own heritage, and a divided community as it slowly healed.
