Buy Little, Buy Less

We are delighted to welcome Claire Dowie back to The Nuffiled after her last production From H to He. Claire’s work combines the hypnotic intensity of an inspired story teller and the audience rapport of a stand up comic - so we strongly recommend her new production BUY LITTLE, BUY LESS.

In a shop, suddenly, without warning, a young woman chewing gum, humming and chatting to her mates, goes pale, stops chewing, stops humming, stops chatting, looks at the frou-frou top she’s been pondering, looks hard at it... then puts it back on the rail, replaces all the stuff she’s been collecting to try on. Her mates watch concerned. The young woman looks genuinely confused and not a little bit frightened: “I’ve got tops! I don’t need tops! I’ve got tops I’ve never worn.”

Claire Dowie’s new piece examines our obsession “to buy or not to buy” in a comical Kafkaesque world which is both familiar and unexpected.
