The 10th anniversary presentation ofCaroline Blakiston’s acclaimed one-woman show about how she made history as the first British actress to play Chekhov in Russia, in Russian.
BLACK BREAD AND CUCUMBER was written during 1992-1993, following Caroline’s unique experience playing Charlotta in The Cherry Orchard in Russian. First in 1991 at the Dramatichesky Teatr in Taganrog - the town on the Sea of Azov in southern Russia where Anton Chekov was born. Then, in 1992 at the Moscow Art Theatre in the longrunning production by Oleg Yefremov. In December 1994 she won the Golden Globe Award, which is presented at Moscow each year to a foreigner who has made a special contribution to Russian theatre.
